No Image

“The Galaxy Note 8 will come with a dual rear camera setup, a 3,300mAh battery and the S Pen stylus” Earlier this week, the South Korean media reported that Samsung is planning to launch the Galaxy Note 8 flagship at an event in New York on August 26th. However, now a new report on VentureBeat by popular tipster Evan Blass aka @evleaks suggests that the brand will be unveiling the Galaxy Note 8 in the second week of September instead. Samsung-Galaxy-Note7-first-impressions-91mobiles-45_thumb.jpg Citing an unnamed individual briefed on Samsung’s plans, the source claims that the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 will be the brand’s most expensive smartphone till date. The phone will allegedly retail for €999 (~Rs 72,000). The Galaxy Note 8 will be a 6.3-inch offering with the same edge-to-edge 18.5:9 aspect ratio AMOLED display as the Galaxy S8. The report suggests that even though the Note 8 will get a screen similar to the S8 duo, it certainly will have some differentiating factors. The company will be equipping the flagship phablet with a dual primary camera setup, beefed-up specifications and the signature S Pen stylus. The phone will be powered by the same Exynos 8895 and Snapdragon 835 chipsets as the latest Galaxy S duo, but will come with 6GB of RAM. As for the dual rear cameras, the report suggests that the Note 8 will get two 12MP sensors at the rear with independent optical image stabilisation. The dual cameras will be configured horizontally, situated to the left of the flash and heart rate sensor. The fingerprint sensor of the phone will be placed to the right of the flash and heart rate sensor. Furthermore, the report goes on to say that the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 will utilise a relatively conservative 3,300mAh battery. The company seems to be taking extra precautions and doesn’t want to repeat the Galaxy Note7 fiasco. The Note 8 will also come with improved split-screen multitasking features, the ability to pin handwritten digital notes to the always-on screen, and DeX capabilities. The report also suggests that the device will be available at launch in black, blue and gold hues.

Samsung Galaxy Note 8 will be the company’s first dual camera smartphone

No Image

Several reports in the past had indicated that dual cameras would be present on Samsung’s latest flagships, the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ (first impressions). However, the Galaxy S8 duo stuck to a single 12MP camera, the same one seen on the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge. Now, notable analyst from KGI Securities, Ming-Chi Kuo, suggests that the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 will be the Korean giant’s first smartphone to sport dual rear cameras. According to Kuo, a dual camera setup will be the most important upgrade in the Samsung Galaxy Note 8. The setup will include a 12-megapixel Dual Pixel sensor for wide-angle photography and another 13-megapixel telephoto shooter sensor. Both the sensors will support optical image stabilisation and 3x optical zoom. Moreover, the analyst claims that the Galaxy Note 8’s dual camera will be much better than the Apple iPhone 7 Plus, and likely match of the upcoming OLED iPhone. If the earlier reports are to be believed, the phone may come with a vertically arrange dual camera setup. Kuo also mentioned that the Galaxy Note 8 would come with a 6.4-inch OLED display bearing a resolution of QHD+. Depending on the market, the phone would be featuring either a Snapdragon 835 SoC or an Exynos 8895 chipset, which is hardly a surprise. Samsung has already confirmed that the Exynos 8895 SoC features dual ISP support for dual cameras, so it’s likely that the Note 8 will feature this. Related read: Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ launched in India Furthermore, Kuo mentioned that the pre-order feedback for the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ is better than expected. For this reason, KGI is increasing their earlier shipment predictions of 40 to 45 million units to between 50 to 55 million units.

The Moto M marks a new design philosophy for the brand

No Image

The Lenovo-owned Moto covers the entire price spectrum with its smartphone offerings, starting from the budget segment under Rs 10,000 and going all the way up to Rs 40,000. However last year, it didn’t have any contender in the mid-tier segment between Rs 15,000 and 25,000. The Moto M, which was launched towards the end of 2016, fills this void. The device has already garnered a lot of attention as it ranks among the top 20 most popular phones of last month. We just got our hands on the higher-end Moto M, and as we prep it for its review grind, here’s a quick look at the retail box contents followed by our hands-on experience of the smartphone.

Now as it promised, the company has finally started rolling out the latest Android firmware version to these devices in India and Brazil. LG V20 with 5.7-inch QHD display and Snapdragon 820 SoC goes on sale in India for Rs 54,999

No Image

The LG V20 was unveiled in September as the successor to the LG V10 (first impressions). Similar to its predecessor, the V20 also sports a secondary display (160 x 1,040 pixels resolution) on top of the main screen. The ticker screen lets you view notifications and alerts at a glance. The device is made out of lightweight aluminium and a new silicone material, which the brand claims can reduce shocks by up to 20 percent. It was the world’s first smartphone to run Android Nougat out-of-the-box and offer a 32-bit Hi-Fi Quad DAC for enhanced audio playback.

Moto Z camera review: impressive but not flagship-grade

No Image

Unlike most brands that play on specifications, Motorola hasn’t shied away from innovating when it comes to its flagships. The Moto X (review), introduced in 2013 (launched in India in 2014) offered a customisable design along with an always-on chip that enabled the voice-based Touchless control feature. The brand has come a long way since then, and its flagship offerings have now been launched under the Moto Z (first impressions) name that gives a peek of the future with semi-modular designs. While the brand has always won accolades for its design, software optimisations, performance, and innovative features, it usually has a hit-and-miss relationship with the camera capabilities. Can the change in the model naming change its luck with imaging as well? Well, that’s what we intend to find out with our Moto Z camera review.

Honor 8 Smart first impressions: promising but unjustifiably pricey

No Image

Honor, at its Honor 8 (review) launch event, announced two more smartphones, catering to different sets of users. While the Honor 8 Smart is a mid-ranger at Rs 19,999, the Holly 3 (first impressions) takes the company’s budget portfolio forward and is priced at Rs 9,999. These are our first impressions of the former. Talking about the specifications first, the Honor 8 Smart is a compact 5.2-inch smartphone with a full HD display. The phone is powered by an octa-core Kirin 650 chipset coupled with 2GB of RAM. The in-built storage is rated at 16GB. The phone gets a 13MP primary camera, an 8MP front camera, and is backed by a 3,000mAh battery. The metal-clad smartphone also sports a fingerprint scanner.

Samsung Galaxy J Max review: suffering from an identity crisis

No Image

The Korean behemoth Samsung has built a knack of experimenting to ensure that it’s always ahead of the competitors. The Galaxy Note range was a result of that. Keeping its current troubles with the latest Galaxy Note7 (first impressions) aside, there’s no denying that Samsung single-handedly kickstarted the phablet phenomenon. But the rise of phablets spelt doom for the bigger brother of smartphones, the tablets. Perhaps that explains why the numero uno phone manufacturer is christening its Galaxy J Max (first impressions) a phone rather than a tablet, as per the conventional definition.

Moto Z and Z Play first impressions

No Image

Google first showed us the dream of modular phones with its Project Ara, and then rudely snatched it away. Thankfully though, other brands picked it up somewhere in the middle, and one of the first phones that came close to realising that dream was the LG G5. The G5 was an ambitious attempt, but did not really rock our boat due to a variety of issues (read our review). Moto, now under the aegis of Lenovo, is now taking a similar route, and the result of its pursuits is the Moto Z family.

The rise of customised smartphones

No Image

Talking of customised phones, the latest entry in this category is the OPPO F1s Diwali Edition smartphone, which adds more spark to an already impressive device with a 16MP front camera. The limited edition smartphone comes in a stylish packing studded with the glow of Diwali celebrations. Moreover, the back panel of the device comes with a gilded glare of a Diwali pattern, along with a joint laser signature from two of the most celebrated youth icons in India – Hrithik Roshan and Sonam Kapoor… now that’s saying something. And, if you’re worried that your prized signatures would get erased over prolonged usage then fret not - thanks to the use of laser technology OPPO guarantees that your favourite actors’ signatures would remain intact for years.

"The new google Pixel upcoming"

No Image

"The new Pixel duo is seriously loaded and comes with the power of Google Assistant baked right in" Microsofting. Yahooing. Sound weird? Well, the latter is an actual word, matter of fact. How about Googling? Doesn’t sound as strange huh? Google isn’t the first brand that has been verbified, so to speak (there are others like Xerox, FedEx etc) but this just goes to show how omnipresent the search giant is. Pretty much all of us use some product / service or the other from the Mountain View major countless times every day without giving it a second thought. Take Android, the mobile platform developed by the company for example. It’s by far the most popular mobile OS globally, and each year, Android fans look forward to the launch of new Nexus phone(s) injected with the very latest version
